Morgannwg LDC / BDA Training Day 20 April 2018, NHS Claiming Regulations

Morgannwg LDC and the BDA have collaborated in organising an Education Day on NHS Claiming Regulations to be held on Friday, 20th April 2018 at the Education Centre, Morriston Hospital from 0900 to 1630 and which will provide 5.5 hours of CPD.

The course content is based on a highly recommended programme already successfully provided by the BDA. The speakers, course materials, CPD evaluation and certification will be provided by the BDA Events team and the attendance on the course (including refreshments and lunch) will be fully funded by Morgannwg LDC.  Because of this only applications from Performers and Providers in practices within the ABMU HB area will be considered.  Numbers will be limited to 120 course participants and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and we will hold a waiting list on the same basis if necessary.  Please note we will only be able to accept applications from dentists.

The attached flyer contains full details of the course and an application form.  Please return the application to me, preferably by email, by Friday, 23rd March 2018, full details are in the flyer.

Kind regards

Roger Pratley,
Secretary, Morgannwg LDC

Wellbeing Through Work – In Work Support

The In Work Support service aims to provide confidential support by NHS Therapists to people within the ABMU Health Board catchment area who are struggling to manage their health at work or who are off work sick and wish to return to work. The team’s Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists offer interventions that enable staff to manage their health condition at home and in the workplace using cognitive behavioural therapy techniques. Evidence shows that early intervention to support muscle and joint pain, stress, anxiety and depression enables faster recovery and the ability to return to, or remain in work.

The attached leaflet explains how to access the e service.

Practice Intentions to take on New Patients – Keeping the Localities informed

You will be aware the Localities need to keep updated lists of Practices who are able to take on new patients so that the information can be given to the Public when requested.  It would be helpful if Practices could inform their Localities by email what their current situations are in relation to taking on new patients and whenever there is a change to their situation.

The relevant contacts are as follows:

Bridgend Locality Alison Herbert-Davies
Neath Port Talbot Locality Sarah Dunstan
Swansea Locality Richard Williams Richard.Williams16@wales.nhs

Practice Answerphone Messages

You will have been informed by your locality that an attempt is being made to standardise messages across the LHB on the introduction of the 111 telephone service.  This has already been done with GP practices. The content of the message for when the practice is closed has been agreed between the LHB and LDC and should include the following:

“Welcome to XXXX Practice.  The dental practice is now closed and our opening hours are XXXXX.  If you are a patient and experiencing dental problems outside of normal working hours, please call the free helpline number 111 where you will be provided with information and advice on how to manage the dental problem and if necessary, how to access urgent care.  All patients can call 111.  If you wish to leave a message please do so after the tone. Thank you for your call”

Practices who treat private patients who access the practice through the same number as NHS patients might want to include a message for these patients.

QAS – Tips For Completing and Submitting QAS Questionnaire

Please remember the closing date for submitting QAS return is 25th November 2016

Chris Wills-Wood has asked me to update colleagues on some errors and omissions he has found on QAS submissions to date.

  1. Section 2. Practice Personnel. If the practice’s staff is too large to fit into the box enter the additional information in the Feedback section at the bottom of the page.
  2. Section 12. Radiation. The legal owner is the person who owns the X ray equipment. In the case of a Corporate or Limited Company the name to enter is either the Limited Company owner or CEO – a Corporate Board is not the legal owner in terms of responsibility. The medical physics expert’s name will be on the local rules. NB HIW in their annual report have highlighted radiological and IRMER problems in dental practice
  3. Section 14. ICO question 1. The name to enter here for the data controller is the name of a person working within the practice. Changes last year gave ICO powers to enter NHS premises/organisations unannounced.
  4. Section 16 No 4. The child protection lead should be a named Dentist following Welsh Guidance – exception if there is agreement with the LHB.
  5. It is the legal responsibility of the Practice Owner to verify and sign off the QAS document before submission.
  6. Check certificate dates have been updated for this year.
